Rumors are swirling that the pop superstar secretly jetted into the UK to shoot a visual for "Elizabeth Taylor" inside a derelict shopping mall.
If the latest reports are to be believed, Taylor Swift just took "secret pop star behavior" to a whole new level. Sources suggest the singer flew 3,500 miles from New Jersey to London last weekend on a covert mission to film a music video in a very unexpected location: a rundown shopping center in Croydon.
According to scoops from The Sun and The Standard, Swift’s team treated the trip like a "military operation" to ensure she wasn't spotted. The location in question is the Whitgift Centre, a shopping mall that has seen better days, which reportedly served as the backdrop for her song "Elizabeth Taylor" from the massive new album, The Life Of A Showgirl.
Swift seemingly didn't wander the empty mall alone. The reports claim she was joined on set by Scottish ballad-king Lewis Capaldi and Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson.
For eagle-eyed fans, this lineup isn't totally random; the trio shared a couch on The Graham Norton Show back in October, and their chemistry evidently sparked a creative collaboration.
Why fly all the way to the UK for a video? Beyond Swift's well-documented love affair with London (we all remember the Lover era), the song’s namesake, Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor, was born in Hampstead, North London, in 1932. Shooting in the capital seems to be Swift’s way of paying homage to the British roots of the iconic actress.
"Taylor is super excited to be back in London," an insider source allegedly told The Sun. "She wants to capture different locations around the city to honor Elizabeth Taylor, who is a British icon."
While fans are hyped about the potential video, the logistics of the trip have raised eyebrows. The alleged 3,500-mile flight on a private jet brings the conversation about Swift's carbon footprint back to the surface. Swift faced backlash in 2022 regarding her private flight usage, though her legal team has previously clarified that her jet is frequently loaned out to other individuals.
Regardless of the travel logistics, The Life Of A Showgirl continues to crush the charts. Despite mixed critical reviews upon release, the album has already become Swift’s 15th US Number One, proving that whether she's selling out stadiums or shutting down Croydon malls, the world is still watching her every move.
